I believe in a lot of things that practical people would shake their heads at.
(I’m okay with that.)
On my phone, I have an app that I like that gives me a daily horoscope, a few random digital tarot cards, and some celestial, but often VERY practical wisdom.
Yesterday it told me the time that the full moon would reach it’s peak here in upstate NY.
10:35pm.
The night before, my husband and I went outside to check out the gradually waxing moon, standing in our silent road, looking out over the mountains and the silvery moonglow, and agreed we would go out again when it was full on Tuesday evening.
We tried to witness the moonrise on Tuesday, but we live in the middle of the woods, and the trees block a clear view. I walked into our trails a bit, following the moonglow that was poking through – orange/ish gold, but alas there wasn’t a good place to view her in all of her lunar glory.
So, after the girls were in bed, he and I killed an hour watching an old favorite funny TV show, then went outside at 10:35 pm to check on our full moon progress.
I stepped off our porch and was immediately reminded of the celestial event that happened in our neck of the woods in April. In April, our home was in the ‘path of totality’ and we experienced a once in a lifetime solar eclipse.
Last night, the full moon was being eclipsed, with a peak of 8% coverage! I hadn’t researched anything about the moon so I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw.
I called out to my husband to come check it out, and he was equally as happy as I was.
This activity of staring into the stars has become a new way of connecting for us, and we stood in our yard smiling up at the moon, laughing, and just genuinely awestruck that we happened to see the eclipse of it when we did. If we had come out earlier in the evening, before it’s peak fullness, we wouldn’t have seen the moon in this state.
It was one of those divine timing feelings… you’re right where you are supposed to be sensations.
But wait, there’s more…
I stood there, holding his hand, beaming and happy for what we were witnessing together…
When a shooting star BLAZED across the sky, through the opening of the trees that we were staring into.
“DID YOU SEE THAT?!” he exclaimed to me
I started laughing, and nodded.
Yes, I did.
We both paused and quietly made a wish in our minds.
Lately, I have been contemplating how perfect things are around me. It’s not been the easiest few months in my world, but I really have no reason to complain in retrospect. So much of our lives are just FULL of distractions – from pretty unimportant things.
Taking time to snuggle with our girls on the couch, play a game as a family, and watch the full moon with my husband – has all reminded me that life is unfolding perfectly. There is immense joy in the simple pleasures.
We are exactly where we are supposed to be.
Our lives, are a gift.
And if I need a reminder, I’ll just remember that divinely placed shooting star as it streaked past our maple trees.

❤️ Life is full of sweet tender moments. Taking the time to see them is most important.
